Departure Date: 07 June 2010

This fabulous tour includes, in no particular order, Bologna, Rome, Vatican, Coliseum, Vesuvius, Naples, Sorrento, Pompeii etc.
We have allowed for a full day in the Vatican, to include St. Peter’s and the fabulous Vatican museum, and a guided tour around the city of Rome including the ancient Roman forum, and the Coliseum. When we are in Sorrento, we have included a tour around Naples itself, a trip to Vesuvius and Pompeii and a coach tour along the spectacularly beautiful coast road – you wouldn’t want to drive it yourself!
Driving in and around Rome & Naples can best be described as “interesting” and the tour has been planned so that you will be travelling at the quietest times. You should, however, expect the unexpected at all times when you are driving in Italy.
The campsites we will use in Rome and Sorrento are both fully self-contained holiday villages, including a selection of restaurants and a substantial supermarket. It will still be fun to explore the local shops, but it will not be essential.
Italians, particularly those in the south, exhibit a wonderful love of life. They don’t know the meaning of the word “boring”. Generally speaking they are very friendly and fun-loving, while showing a passion for their own country which is unusual to see in Britain. If you are prepared to relax and try the local foods, wines and customs you cannot fail to enjoy this tour.
Unfortunately, the tour is not suitable for anyone who has restricted mobility as most of the places of special interest are inaccessible to wheelchairs.

We will have all day to explore the magnificent St. Peter’s cathedral and the incredible Vatican museum with the help of the Michelin guide book with which everybody will be supplied. It is not practical to buy the individual entry tickets to the Vatican museum in advance, so these will be each individual’s responsibility. During this day we will have the opportunity to see two of the world’s greatest works of art, the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican museum and La Pieta inside St. Peter’s. Everybody should take the time to study these treasures – you June never have the opportunity to see them again. Lunch can be taken at any of the many restaurants or bars in the vicinity. 17 Wednesday 23rd June 2010: Today has been left completely free so that you can relax before the long drive home, or make a last minute visit to somewhere you have missed earlier. This evening we will have a farewell dinner in the campsite’s own excellent restaurant, which makes its own pasta! The wine will flow.
18 Thursday 24th June 2010: The tour ends this morning and you can either follow the tour directors directly back to Calais, a total distance of about 1,200 miles, or you can drift back at a more leisurely pace and visit many other wonderful places.
