Departure Date: 27 June 2010

This tour will take us to the wine growing regions of Beaujolais, Hermitage, Chateauneuf du Pape and Provence. Many tastings are included, plus the opportunity to taste the rich culinary traditions of the region. We haven’t cut costs by staying on the vineyards’ premises, but always use good quality campsites so that our customers are provided with all the facilities they are used to. When you study the itinerary you will realise what incredible value this tour is!

Itinerary

Day Description
Sunday 27th June 2010: We catch an afternoon ferry from Dover with access to the Club Class lounge with free Champagne and coffee and have a short drive of about 40 miles to our first campsite just south of the town of Ardres near the A26 motorway. This evening everybody can get to know each other at a welcome dinner in the campsite’s own restaurant.
Monday 28th June 2010: Today’s drive is about 180 miles and will bring us to our campsite in the Champagne region. The journey will be nearly all on motorways so it will be a very leisurely day’s driving. There is a hypermarket within easy walking distance of the campsite so this would be a good time to stock up on some French delicacies.
Tuesday 29th June 2010: Today is the longest day’s drive of the whole tour – a total of about 250 miles to arrive at our campsite in the Beaujolais town of Fleurie.
Wednesday 30th June 2010: A free day to relax after yesterday’s long drive.
Thursday 1st July 2010: Today we start the serious wine tastings! Our bus will first take us to the local Co-operative for a single tasting and then we go on to the “Terrace de Beaujolais” for a tasting of about 6 different wines. These will be from the famous Beaujolais villages of Chiroubles, Fleurie and Morgon. Obviously there will also be the opportunity to purchase the wines, as well as olive oil and souvenirs. This evening we will be taken to a top class local restaurant for a super dinner, with local wines included.
Friday 2nd July 2010: Today you could stroll into the village of Fleurie in about 10 minutes for some more tastings, or perhaps use the campsite’s own minibus for a small charge. This would be a good opportunity to catch up with the shopping.
Saturday 3rd July 2010: A short drive of about 75 miles will bring us to our next campsite in the Hermitage region. This is the only site our tour directors recommend as the place to do your washing by hand – apparently the view is simply magnificent. The site also has its own excellent restaurant and we will have another group dinner there – with local wines of course!
Sunday 4th July 2010: Today is the traditional day of rest and we have left it completely free so you can do whatever you want.
Monday 5th July 2010: We have an excursion today to taste some Hermitage and Cote Roti wines. The tour will also include some other places of interest.
Tuesday 6th July 2010: We continue south for another 110 miles to arrive at our next site, just across the river from the famous “Pont d’Avignon.
Wednesday 7th July 2010: We have an excursion this afternoon which will include a fabulous tasting of 5 different chocolates and 3 different wines. After this we will go on to a chateau nearby for a further tasting plus a dinner with local wines.
Thursday 8th July 2010: A free day so you can either relax or walk in to Avignon (at least 10 minutes) and look around this lovely, historic city.
Friday 9th July 2010: Another short drive – about 40 miles, will bring us to our final campsite in Provence.
Saturday 10th July 2010: We have an excursion today which will include some of the attractive villages in the region, but the highlight will be a traditional, long French lunch at a top class wine chateau. After a tasting of its wines we will be able to enjoy the lunch even more.
Sunday 11th July 2010: Today is the last day of the tour and this evening we will have our farewell dinner in the campsite’s own restaurant. The wine will flow!
Monday 12th July 2010: The tour ends this morning and you can either head for home with the Tour Directors or stay on in the South of France and maximize your 60 day ferry ticket.
