There is no limit for the importation of tax-paid goods purchased in an EC country, provided these goods are for the importer's personal use.

Quantities up to the limits below are considered acceptable by the customs. These guidelines are per person!
Spirits over 22% 10 litres = 13 bottles
Spirits under 22% 20 litres = 26 bottles
Still or Sparkling wine 90 litres = 120 bottles
Sparkling wine 60 litres = 80 bottles
Beer 110 litres = 200 pints
Cigarettes 3,200  
Cigarillos 400  
Cigars 200  
Tobacco 3 Kg  

If you are travelling to France or through Calais the minimum saving on wine is over £1 per bottle. Beer is about half the normal British price and spirits are also cheaper.

There is a superb, indoor shopping complex at Calais, where everyone speaks English, but in a very "French" atmosphere. The shops include a Hypermarket; various drinks shops, including Tesco & Oddbins; several fashion boutiques; assorted bars & restaurants. Alternatively, you can visit one of the other hypermarkets in Calais, or a British drinks outlet e.g. East Enders.
